Politics are fucked, so stop worrying and enjoy life!
I’ve been receiving fearful emails from various folks who are worked up about politics, and I felt that one of my recent responses to them was worth sharing. Hope this is of help to anyone. I think you may find this refreshing.
Obama and Bush are not opposed. At the top, Democrat, Republican, left, right, conservative, liberal..all are irrelevant. They pat each other on the back while fanning the flames below them. They publicly blame each other for America’s woes while laughing all the way to the bank. Whoever is in power blames whoever is not in power and vice versa. But I think they work hand in hand at the top, and play us like puppets through FOX, CNN, etc.
While Americans get divided and worked up, they cash in and get more power. Each side takes away a different set of rights, back and forth, whittling away more and more of them in the guise of safety and security and saving us from the other side. When Americans get too sick of one side, the other side gets put up to bat, taking turns at helping us tear ourselves apart.
Anyone who tells you it’s all one side’s fault is lying or naive. They’re all corrupt, and nothing in politics happens by accident. Bickering about who did what serves no one.
But….I prefer not to focus on fearmongering, as I can’t do anything against such a fucked up tide.
I recently realized that I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do with my life for years. I’ve been looking for somethng big, grandiose and important. I’ve realized that what I want is much more simple than I thought.
My focus is on what I consider to be the most important things in life: surrounding myself with good people, good conversation, good food, good beer and wine, good music, lots of laughterand love, and to be surrounded by natural beauty whenever possible. I want as much of my life as possible to be filled with those things. In other words, as Jim Morrison said: better get your kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.
I have no illusions about the overwhelming horrific crap that is happening to America from a few greedy, power-mad fucks. But, they’ve got the power and the guns and are above any law, because they make the law. I prefer to enjoy my life just to spite those bastards. Well, also because I’d rather not be fearful and miserable and give them that power over me. I relinquish their power to make me fear anymore. There are a few very human things they can never control, though most let them anyway. Every moment of happiness I create in my life is something they can’t take away. I plan to claim as much happiness as I can. To me, that’s what life is about.
